Okay, so I may be on a bit of a rant here. Bear with me.
So we got to see some of Beth in the last ep, some of how she’s grown and changed. She’s tender and loving as she ever was, but there is something different. She’s almost cautious with Zach (in a playful, adorable way, but still). Like she’s expecting the outcome. Like she’s reliving what happened to Jimmy and every other person she’d lost.
What makes me upset here is that she’s being criticized and made fun of for her apparent lack of emotion in her scene with Daryl. A few examples are here and here. I’m sure there are others. What I see is that Beth has become emotionally numb, which is a symptom of post-traumatic stress disorder. They haven’t focused much on her yet, but I predict we’ll see more of those symptoms appear with her in the future.
I think it’s understandable for her to be suffering from this type of thing. You know, after all she (and everyone) has been through. And it’s not cool to make fun of her for this.
